Our founder, Kathleen Graves, raised a child with special challenges and was concerned about the future for them. Questions such as "Could they work in the regular work environment? What if they needed different accommodations?" Kathleen thought that an individual with these challenges may need an additional option for success.
As an educator, Kathleen saw many children in the classroom who were so creative and loved to dream about the future. While operating the classroom as a city many of the students loved running their own mock business. Advancing Change emerged from this setting. Classes that actually expose children to another choice for the future. They actually get a chance to plan their own business!
Kathleen Graves has a master’s degree in Public Administration and a bachelor’s in Elementary Studies. She has served a principal and educator for the past 18 years. Kathleen is the mother of four.
Kathleen works continuously to improve or add to Advancing Change ideas that include educational standards, career readiness and entrepreneurship strategies. Kathleen is passionate about creating change opportunities through the entrepreneur camps and courses that will advance a change in the future for a population struggling to find employment as adults.
In the future, Kathleen hopes to expand Advancing Change to multiple campuses throughout the city, state and across the nation. Kathleen also wished to create an onsite campus for young adults hoping to create a support network while starting their own businesses. She hopes to create a renewed hope for challenged young people that need that third choice to reach personal success and contribute to the world their unique talents through entrepreneurship.
